Devdutt Padikkal

Former Indian player Virender Sehwag is  of the opinion that Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Devdutt Padikkal’s stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will matter a lot in the Qualifier 2.

Padikkal made his IPL debut for RCB in 2020 and emerged as a prolific run-scorer for the team with 473 (in IPL 2020) and 411 (in IPL 2021) runs in the last two seasons.

In IPL 2022, Padikkal hasn’t been consistent with new franchise Rajasthan Royals, amassing 365 runs in 15 innings at 24.33 and a strike rate of 128.52.

The Karnataka batter was tried in the middle-order as well in the opening slot with Jos Buttler. In the two matches against RCB this season, Padikkal score 37 & 7 respectively.

Sehwag believes Padikkal’s experience of facing the likes of Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, and Wanindu Hasaranga in the nets will add benefit to the Royals in the upcoming knockout match.

“Devdutt Padikkal is the player to watch out for. He has played against this bowling attack for around 2-3 years in the nets,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

RCB will have to play in a similar fashion to win Qualifier 2: Virender Sehwag

RCB thumped Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 14 runs in the Eliminator game on Wednesday (May 25).

Rajat Patidar scored a scintillating unbeaten 112, laced by 12 fours and seven sixes, at a staggering strike rate of 207.41 to power RCB to 207/4.

RCB outsmarted LSG by 14 runs as Harshal (1/25) and Josh Hazlewood (3/43) bowled brilliantly in the slog overs. LSG skipper KL Rahul scored 79 off 58 balls but perished in the penultimate over to Hazlewood.

Sehwag said RCB will have to repeat their Eliminator performance against Rajasthan to secure a final berth.

The way RCB played, the advantage is definitely with them for Qualifier 2. There is no doubt about it. But they will have to play in a similar fashion,” the former Indian player said.

RCB will play Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 on Friday (May 27) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
